Samsung has struck again with
their latest model in the Galaxy S series, The Samsung Galaxy S5. It features
one of the best hardware available in the market . A remote infrared blaster is
now featured with a Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used as a universal remote
for TVs and other home appliances. It was Nokia that introduces Infrared
Blasters in their phone for the first time. After some time it lost its
popularity. Samsung has started the second wave of mobile cum remotes with the
introduction of Infrared blasters in Galaxy S4. In Galaxy S5, it does this with
the help of a pre-loaded app called Smart Remote that functions as the
interface for the remote. You can not only control televisions, but also home
theatres and Some Players. It almost looks and works like WatchOn app from
Samsung Galaxy S4.
First, You have to
pair you Samsung Galaxy S5 with the TV .For that, the following steps have to
be done.
·
Open the Smart Remote app from the app-drawer
·
Select your Country from the list of countries
available
·
Enter your ZIP or PIN code to find your area.
·
Enter the name of the Service provider or cable
provider.
· You can personalise the different channels and genres you want to watch. Click the next button to continue
or Skip to skip this process.
· Once you have done with that, You can now setup the TV with the Smart Remote app. Many
famous brands like Samsung, Sony , Philips are available in the list and you
can choose you product from this.
· If you can’t find your TV in that list, you can
click the Show other brands to select brands not in the main list.
·
Without getting any obstacle on the way, point
the Galaxy S5 at the television and try the different codes for switching on
the TV . If the first one doesn’t work,
then try the next one keep doing this until one of the code works. For me, this
happened in the first step itself.
·
After finding the right code, you can use the
remote now. The remote icon can be found at the right top of the Smart remote
app.
·
The remote interface allows you to change
channels , increase or decrease volume, change input source or enter any
channel number you want to see.
·
TVs are not the only device that can be
controlled by the app. Other devices can be added by tapping the add a device
option in the settings. If one or more devices are added, and are within the
range of the infrared blaster, then they can be switched on or off at the same
time . You can even have different devices for different rooms.
·
A cool notification bar interface can save you the pain of opening the app every
now and then and reach it in a swipe from the top.
These are the features that the Infrared
Blaster and Smart Remote app can provide us with in the new Samsung Galaxy S5. Don’t
worry if you can’t find your remote in time, take out your Galaxy S5, point the
phone at the television and TAP!! I hope someday they will add Voice
recognition and save the lazy ones, the
pain of lifting their arms and take their phone out! Who would know, anything
is possible!

The technology is amazing! I only wish I had the Galaxy 5. I just got a refurbished G2 :( but I know where to come when I get a new one on how to use it. Your last comment about voice recognition is already here and soon we will not need to even get out of bed to do a thing. Kind of sad really.
ReplyWow! I have heard great things about Samsung phones! This is a great feature to have on a phone. Thanks for the info.
ReplyI don't own a Samsung gadget (Samsung Galaxy to be exact) but I guess this feature will be a great help for techy individuals. And as a remote control, double purpose that is!
ReplyI love the cool things we can do with technology now. Who would have imagined that we would be able to control TVs with our phones 10 years ago?
ReplyWow! That is really cool! I don't have a Samsung Galexy device, but I do love the iphone's DirecTV ap where I can use that like a remote. Technology is getting cooler and cooler.
ReplyThat is super convenient- you'd never have to worry about losing the remote again (only your phone!) Perhaps slowly Samsung will take more and more away from iPhone's market.
Replythis is a really great app.. I use the one on the iPhone for our Verizon service all the time.. it works awesome.
ReplyI'm all for cutting down on devices cluttering up the floor. I'm loving this idea of a phone remote!
ReplyI love Samsung products! I have this open for my Samsung Notebook and it is great! I usually use it to play jokes on the family. It is always funny to watch someone with the remote in their hands to try and figure out why the TV keeps changing! I have the Samsung Galaxy 4 phone right now and can't wait to get the 5. Their products are so reliable and I have never had one single problem with either of them! Samsung TV is my dream purchase!!!
ReplyI never knew you could do this with a Samsung Galaxy, I've never used their phones before, but I've always been tempted to.
ReplyThat samsung phone looks great! Thank you so much for sharing :)
ReplySamsung has a really great brand and done an amazing job of capturing the mobile phone market place!
ReplyDamn this is handy. I misplace my remote or lose it in the cushions but you better believe that doesn't happen to my phone. Neat post.
ReplyYes it seems the new Samsung 5 will have a couple of pretty neat functions, I was so happy since today we started paying ahead for our phones only $23 per week =)
ReplyI'm an Apple guy, but this Samsung product may have me thinking about switching to the other side.
ReplyVery cool function! Makes me think of how archaic the infomercials for those old remote control caddys are now!
ReplyI like cell phones with a lot of features. It seems the more features it has the less work I have to do to control it.
ReplyIf i can't find the regular remote, i use my phone remote, and this really a great features.
ReplyI think this is really cool and would love to have one of these phones. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyMy aunt has this phone and absolutely loves it. I have never tried this but I have a friend who uses her phone as a remote and I'm always jealous. The other day we were at a restaurant and she was scheduling things to tape.
ReplyMy husband owns a LG g2 and he has this feature on that phone. He used to previously own the Galaxy S4 and loved it. I think it is so neat that he can change the channel and do all that using the phone. Amazing what technology can do.
ReplyI have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which has the same function and it is really very helpful and efficient especially when our TV remote was broken we were able to use my Tablet while we are looking for the replacement.
ReplyI have a Samsung. Love it to bits but there are a ton of things I haven´t yet mastered. Some not even discovered! Lol. Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyOh now that is an awesome feature! Especially for my family with 17 month old twins that LOVE to hide the remote!
ReplySamsung phones are cheap imitations of whatever brand is popular. They don't innovate and have terrible implementation of their tools. If you want a good Android phone, go to the source and get a Nexus.
ReplyI should add that I do have Samsung Smart TV and wish they'd offer integration at least on some level, with other phones.
ReplyThat is such an amazing feature! I actually lost my TV remote and was trying to google iPhone remote apps to see if anything would work, LOLOL
ReplyI heard about this new samsung development on the news recently. I think it's pretty cool- they are creating some real competition for Apple.
ReplyI am pretty much all Samsung except for my iPad only because I thought I should learn another brand. But wow I would love the phone to be my controller. I am still on Galaxy 3 need to upgrade.
ReplyMy husband uses this all the time because we always lose our remote. It's such a great idea.
ReplyI really want the S5.,. I didn't even know they have this amazing feattures.I want it more now!
ReplyThis phone looks pretty cool. I have the s2 right now but am hoping to upgrade to this one soon.
ReplyMy dad has a Samsung Galaxy,.... I didnt know about this feature and he is out of town. Can't wait for him to come back so I can try this amazing Galaxy Remote.
ReplyWhoops! Sorry to whomever I made a reply to instead a comment. What I said was it's great but you need to reset the entire program if you want to delete a room, that is my only complaint
